Barbados Fashion Week 2010

October 21, 2010

Barbados Fashion Week 2010 begins tomorrow, 22nd October and yours truly will be covering the event and chatting with some of the designers.

This year I am very interested in speaking with the younger designers, such as Andrew Harris, AHMW (Andrew Harris Mens Wear) because it is very rare to come across a talented young designer whose primary focus has been on mens clothing. I have a selfish reason for this because I am a man, and as such, I like designers who design for people like me… men.

I have already planned out my wardrobe for the event, and I will hopefully be making contacts for a future endeavor that I am working on, which I will keep you guys posted on. I have not attended in a couple years and I am really excited to see how the designers have matured and how the event itself has developed.

Barbados Fashion Week 2010: Dress for it! And will I ever!

And the Rumors Are In!

March 5, 2009

So apparently, this whole Chris Brown going Ike Turner on Rihanna (also known as Robyn F.) has led to some divulging of information!

It is reported that Chompers (Brown) may not be the straightest of individuals and the romance between the two of them (him and Rihanna) may be a cover for a secret life. Then again, given the reports of his movements in Trinidad, it may not be so secret.

A source levies allegations that Chris Brown is “a sister” and may be in love with some Trini guy. Also, he’s reported to have spent a great deal of his time in Trinidad with a drag queen.

This sheds a whole new light on the saga, I can only imagine that while pummeling Rihanna, Chompers was yelling, “You think you bad?! I does tek more man dan you! EH! EH! EH!”

On Beyonce

February 24, 2009

Well more so on her overexposure. People have been suggesting that being too out there may actually hamper your success. Now, that having been said, Beyoncé Knowles, the QUEEN of overexposure decided that having Bidet and Bidet Unflushed wasn’t enough saturation, she decided to just release a two-disc album I Am… Insane. Don’t get me wrong, I love I Am… Sasha Fierce. I think it’s her best album to date.
However, when she releases two singles within a week of each other, I have to draw the line and say hold up, slow down girlfriend!
She wants to be THE entertainer. I am sure she goes home, looks at billboard and spits every time she sees Rihanna at number one, and that’s a lot of spitting to do, but I digress. So when I Am… In Need of a Sanitarium was released, she had out If I Were A Boy and Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) which I have parodied on my myspace :).
At any rate, both did exceptionally well on the Billboard Hot 100 and of course her album debuted at number one. However, the steam is now letting up and she has out two MORE singles, Halo (one of my favourite songs on the album)
beyonce_halo
and Diva (a female version of A Milli by Lil’ Wayne).

beyonce_diva

Both great songs, but… too much of a good thing is still TOO MUCH! After going through the Hot 100 and seeing that both songs had peaked, Diva at number 20 and Halo at 44 and were on their way down, I snickered and said HA! That never happened to her arch nemesis RiRi. She must have wiped her ASS with that when she saw her singles slipping further below Rihanna’s singles from last year :D
Long story short, B, take my advice. Before you release the last 8 singles you have planned before summer, hold off until at least the middle of April before bringing out a new single. Promote Diva in high end areas and Halo in the sweet heart states.

January 10, 2009

This is the kind of stuff you wake up to on a Saturday morning. I fell in love with the beat and the video instantly, loving the concept as well. Hey, I may even start my own dance troop. Who knows…

Today’s the day for Shontelligence!

November 18, 2008

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

The album is finished, and as of November 18th 2008, Shontelligence the first studio album from Shontelle will be available for you eager beavers out there and I’ve listened to the album and it is DEFINITELY a solid album and is expected to have a shelf life similar to that of Fergie’s album The Dutchess. It is definitely worth the wait.

I hope the UK Deluxe version has on Filthy Rich a song she recorded during the initial stages of track selection for Shontelligence. Filthy Rich is a personal favourite of mine, but failed to make it onto the final pressing of the album (crosses fingers.)

Everyone at Superlative1 wishes Shontelle great success and the best of luck for Shontelligence.

ACF Fashion Weekend

October 26, 2008

Well I was unable to attend the first day due to unforeseen circumstances but I was able to make it on Sunday, October 26th and had a blast! Here’s what I had to say about the show.  Done on my HTC Wizard during the show.

The second night of the ACF fashion show featured designs from around the Caribbean as well as vocal stylings of local ‘singers’ and was tagged as Caribbean Icons night. The first designer was Millhouse of Trinidad; her designs were men’s casual linen clothes of a pure white nature.
The second designer of the night was a Barbadian designer by the name of Sharon James. Her designs were for the ladies and was a mixture of elegantly casual and cocktail dresses as well as some more formal eveninjg pieces.
Another designer who exhibited both men’s and women’s wear was featured, this time a Barbadian; Ricky  dé Jude whose clothes were also elegantly casual with some business inspired pieces thrown in the mix. The crowd response to the women’s clothes was particularly good.
Carol Cadogan Fox was given the Caribbean Icon Award.
Michelle Cole of Guyana was the fourth and final designer displaying her elegant and flowing gowns as well as some more tailored skirts. This all female collection was the largest, most diverse and best received collection of the evening.
The show was very well attended and the elegant backdrop of Lion Castle Polo Estate created an ambiance that which was simply tasteful and made all the snobs feel right at home lol. It was great, no lie.

Pan Yuh

October 8, 2008

So I have been watching this video for two days straight and it never gets old lol. Who are Hotta Claps and Danger? They sound contagious.

It is the tackiest, low budget piece of shit I have ever seen, the singing is awful, the production is worse and the music video is laughable. However, I must give them props for bravery to actually go out there and do something.

Totally Gratuitous

September 30, 2008

For those of you who remember the post Wedding of the Year *Updated* this little tidbit might prove interesting.

Word has it that the former best friend turned arch nemesis of the Crimson Queen who also got married under somewhat spurious conditions was seen in Harbour Lights on Friday night with her new beau. That’s right, she has a new boy-toy.

Seems the rock solid foundation upon which the marriage was based has mysteriously crumbled like the Arch Cot disaster of last year. I suspect it too was unwittingly built upon a hollow cave’s roof. Our best… good… Our wishes go out with the once giddy couple during this obviously tough time.

Nothing like boys and booze to heal the wounds, isn’t that right Soon-to-be ex Mrs?

Cult of Cherry!

September 25, 2008

Here are some pics I took at the launch of the Mac Cosmetics Cult of Cherry campaign for fall 2008 at Cave Shepherd, Broad Street, Barbados.

It was actually a phenomenal presentation, even if you’re not totally into makeup, you’d appreciate how good Mac products really are, and the lesson in how to apply makeup.

Exclusive! Pics of Rihanna and Chris Brown in Barbados

August 13, 2008

So I’m probably going to get a lot of heat for this so it may not be up for long, but what can I say, I’m a die hard reporter at heart. Besides, I don’t have much to take away lol.

Above are some pics of Rihanna, her brother Rorrey, Chris Brown and Rihanna’s sometimes best friend Blacklandra Leandra,. You judge the pics for yourself but to me it seems like a nice friendly trip to the island, despite making my blog and subsequently newspaper headlines, Slow news week that’s all I can say about that. I hope they continue to enjoy their trip and pump some change into the Barbadian economy. Commerce is as commerce does people.

I Decided by Solange: The Parody

July 25, 2008

Lyrics by Superlative1

I can still hear myself…
Can you please turn me down a little bit more?

I was a little special
Coming straight off the short bus
Childhood was like a prison
But Beyoncé still shone through
She was too cool to get the cane,
So I used to get beat in her place.
Go head beat me! (Go head beat me)
Is that the best you can do? (is that the best you can do)

But first you took her around introduced her to music execs
And forgot all about the other daughter you had and her dreams.
Oh dad,

I decided, music’s not the it for me.
Oh dad… because,
I decided, music’s not the it for me.
Oh my dad.

How’s it feel to witness
A trainwreck you can’t undo
My life’s like geographic,
Should be on youtube.
She was too cool to get the cane,
So I used to get beat in her place.
Go head beat me! (Go head beat me)
Is that the best you can do? (is that the best you can do)

But first you took her around introduced her to music execs
And forgot all about the other daughter you had and her dreams.
Oh dad.

I decided, music’s not the it for me.
Oh dad… because,
I decided, music’s not the it for me.
Oh my dad.

You were running me running me down,
And promising me a great hit,
Running me down and promising me hits
But I decided to sing shit oh daddy,

You were running me running me down,
And promising me a great hit,
Running me down and promising me hits
But I decided to sing shit oh daddy!

So I got a..

Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby. (Don’t waste your time, I’m a failure like you )
Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby. (And the closer I get, the more alike we become)
Then you’d break me in two daddy.

… because,
I decided, music’s not the it for me.
Oh my dad.

You were running me running me down,
And promising me a great hit,
Running me down and promising me hits
But I decided to sing shit oh daddy!
