The Catwalk TV Series- Barbados

June 23, 2008

Dear Friend

The Producers of the Catwalk TV Series will be filming the final two scenes for the pilot, at Club NXS in St. Lawrence Gap on Sunday June 29, 2008.

We are inviting you to be an extra on set for the filming of these two scenes. Call-time is 4.00 pm for the main characters and extras should arrive on set by 5.00 pm. We begin with a scene in the car park at 6.30 pm or as soon as outside is dark enough.

The second scene should start filming in the club at 7.30 pm and should last about 3 hours. It will be a live club atmosphere with music and drinks while we film the action involving three characters. There is no cost for admission.

We would be grateful if you could attend and be part of this exciting new television series in the drive to create a local film/television industry. You may also tell any of your friends or relatives whom you think might be interested in attending.

Please be reminded that in keeping with the traditions of the film and television industry, as long as you are on set during filming, you will be required to sign an extra release.

Thanks and Regards
Douglas Newton

Coldplay Vs. Creaky Boards

June 17, 2008

Well this is kind of sad.

It appears as though the average at best band Coldplay who managed to write a song I actually like “Viva La Vida” which appears as an iTunes commercial may have allegedly stolen their melody and ‘inspiration’ from a less mainstream band called Creaky Boards. I was saying… wow, this isn’t usual Coldplay melodramatic supposed angst ridden music, it’s actually GOOD! It’s called “The Songs I Didn’t Write”… irony at its best. Check the video below and make your own judgments.

Sad. They should get SOME reimbursement. It’s a crime is what that is.

Hot Mess!

June 14, 2008

I am so annoyed right now. Here I was thinking that the Whores Pussycat Dolls had a not so bad song about celebrity and everyone wanting a piece of the fame at some point in their lives “When I Grow Up”. HOWEVER after watching this awful music video, my mind has turned completely from the song. Thumbs down!

Supermarket Time!!! *Repost*

June 12, 2008

WOO! So the wonderful Government of Barbados is yet again coddling its citizens. What a double edged sword. They’re working at reducing the cost of certain goods on the shelves of the supermarkets across the island. Funny enough I was having a two day discussion about the price increases and I felt I needed to share this with my well informed reading public.

The problem is, people fail to realise that the Government NOR the big bad food chains are responsible for increasing food prices per se. Another overlooked consideration is that with the Americanisation of the world as we know it since the advent of a million channels on the idiot box, everyone MUST have what they see, be it Olay Daily FacialsĀ® or Tostino’s Pizza Rolls.
The complication comes when you have to import these things as you all know there is no Oil of Olay factory in Barbados. We have a LARGE import bill because we are a tiny country and we don’t produce half of the things we need/want. How do people think they get here? Taking it away from the more luxurious items and bringing it down to grass roots level, let’s look at Sardines- a popular choice would be the brand Brunswick. Show of hands, how many of you out there have gone to the beach and felt the sweet caress of a sardine against your leg? For good reason, we don’t HAVE sardines in our waters. What then must we do to have our homes reek bright and early in the morning? Import!

Now, how does one get a tin of sardines from Canada to Barbados…? OH! I know, the wholesaler can make a paper plane and hurl it in the direction of Barbados. Now true I never made it to CXC with Physics but something tells me that won’t quite work for a variety of reasons. The fact is, we have to ship things to Barbados but Barbadians don’t seem to realise this. At any rate, I shall end it here and leave you with this to chew on.

Ef yuh wan to stan up in de people supamarket and spin roun looking at a hundred different boxes of Corn Flakes, yuh gun gotta pay for de luxury of superfluous choice.

Educate yourselves. Peace.

The Eye- Two Thumbs WAY Down

June 7, 2008

New DVDs this week include The Eye, starring Jessica Alba, Alessandro Nivola, and to a lesser extent, Parker Posey. I wanted to see it in the cinema but my hectic schedule wouldn’t allow for it. HOWEVER after just spending the past two days watching it, (yes, 2 days) I am glad I did not waste an evening on that.

Long and short of it- blind chick (Alba) gets eyes from a chick who killed herself because she could see spirits. Dr. dude jeopardizes license minding the now seeing chick and helps her on her 17 minute quest to solve the mystery of the spirit eyes. She then loses her sight again at the end. YAWN. It is a lot more dull than that riveting description I just gave you, believe me.

Don’t buy it, don’t rent it, don’t even download it. Just forget it was made and hope this was one of the set of reels damaged in the fire in Hollywood.

Idiatoh!

June 2, 2008

Lol so I am embracing tunes for the Crop Over 2008 Festival in Barbados this year. Still haven’t decided if I will be here but still. At any rate, one of my favourite songs is called The African Song by Abacu and Fakaroo. It is a bit on the politically incorrect but it’s all in good fun!
