Okay so for those of you who already heard the rumors of what went down in Barbados back in 2008, this may sound a little familiar, what with Chris Brown, a female compatriot, a car and an assault, so I’ll just skip that prior scenario and get into this current one.
According to The Insider:
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police say they’re investigating an alleged domestic violence felony battery report involving Chris Brown.
The police department says in a release the 19-year-old R&B singer and a woman were in a vehicle in the Hancock Park neighborhood early Sunday when they began arguing.
Police say Brown and the woman got out of the car and the argument escalated.
Police say the woman identified Brown as her attacker. Officers say Brown wasn’t at the scene.
A message left for Brown’s representative seeking comment wasn’t immediately returned.
Note the omission of the other party in question, believed to be Rihanna who was missing from the Grammy Awards Show 2009 after being involved in a ‘car accident’.
However The Insider in another article available online states:
In what may or may not be related news, “The Insider” confirms that pop singer Rihanna will not be performing at tonight’s Grammys following sustaining a bruised face in what sources called a car accident.
Coincidentally, Rihanna’s rumored boyfriend Chris Brown is under investigation for alleged domestic violence felony battery related to an alleged attack on a woman who he had been riding in a car with that sustained what police call “visible injuries.”
Sources at the Grammys tell “The Insider” that Rihanna’s face is slightly bruised and no announcement has been made as to who will be taking her place on stage. “We have just been informed that Rihanna will not be attending tonight’s 51st Annual Grammy Awards. We’re sorry she is unable to join us this evening,” The Recording Academy’s statement reads.
Related to the Brown investigation, police say Brown and the woman were in a vehicle in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles when, following an argument, the woman was allegedly injured, naming Brown as her attacker. When police arrived, they only found the woman; Brown had left. The Associated Press reported Sunday afternoon that police were still looking for the male R&B star.
Police say they received a 911 call related to the incident which occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. The LAPD is investigating the incident.
Rihanna and Brown were just photographed together at a Pre-Grammy party on Saturday night. Keep checking “The Insider” for more on this developing story.
This would be the biggest celebrity pop scandal for 2009 to date. With a new album in the works to promote, it keeps her name buzzing. You know what they say, there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
Of course we hope this is a misunderstanding, however reality being what it is… one never knows the true personalities of one’s celebidols and we really shouldn’t be quick to jump to conclusions until more details become available.
***Update***
So Access Hollywood is speaking definitively on the matter:
LOS ANGELES, Calif. —
Chris Brown has been charged with felony battery after an alleged violent incident on Saturday night, Access Hollywood has learned.
Earlier on Sunday, the LAPD was investigating Brown for assault following an alleged domestic violence felony battery against a woman reported to be the singer’s girlfriend, Rihanna, at 12:30 AM on Sunday in Los Angeles. Both Brown and Rihanna pulled out of Sunday evening’s Grammy Awards before the ceremony.
Brown turned himself in on Sunday evening, the LAPD confirmed to Access.
“At around 6:30 PM on February 8, 2009 R&B entertainer Chris Brown turned himself in to authorities at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division,” the LAPD said in a statement to Access. “Detectives investigating the alleged domestic violence felony battery booked him for criminal threats.”
According to his booking sheet, Brown was being held on a $50,000 bail under a felony charge. He has since been released.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the victim of the alleged assault was Rihanna, though the LAPD would not confirm that report.
“At the time the case is presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, additional charges may be filed. It will be up the LA County DA to review the case and determine which charge or charges will be most appropriate,” the LAPD noted.
Earlier, the LAPD confirmed to Access that the R&B singer and an undisclosed woman were in a vehicle on North June St. in the Hancock Park area of LA, where the victim claims an argument occurred. Brown allegedly stopped the car and the woman suffered “visible injuries” and identified the singer as her attacker.
“Mr. Brown is a suspect that we are looking for… we would definitely like to speak with him,” a spokesperson for the LAPD told Access on Sunday evening.
When contacted by Access on Sunday night, a rep for Rihanna said that the singer was “well.”
“Rihanna is well. Thank you for concern and support,” the rep said.
A rep for Chris Brown did not return calls from Access.
“We have just been informed that Rihanna will not be attending tonight’s 51st Annual Grammy Awards,” a Grammy rep confirmed to Access late Sunday afternoon. “We’re sorry she is unable to join us this evening.”
The rep issued a similar statement regarding Brown later in the evening.
“We have just been informed that Chris Brown will not be attending tonight’s 51st Annual Grammy Awards. We’re sorry he is unable to join us this evening,” the rep told Access.
On Saturday evening, the music couple walked the red carpet separately at the Grammy Salute to Industry Icons honoring Clive Davis at the Beverly Hilton, and they were later spotted smiling together inside the party.
Rihanna was set to perform and was nominated for three Grammys, while Brown was up for two awards at the ceremony.
